About

British Aluminium Consortium for Advanced Alloys

We are building a world-class aluminium recycling and rolling facility that keeps the value of British scrap onshore, strengthens the UK’s strategic supply chains, and enables manufacturers to source 100% recycled, UK-produced metal.

We are developing a modern, low-carbon plant capable of supplying the automotive, beverage, construction and defence sectors with high-performance aluminium sheet. By integrating recycling and rolling in one site, we create the conditions for a truly circular economy: reducing emissions, lowering costs, and supporting long-term industrial resilience.

Mission

Aluminium: the critical material for a secure and green future

Aluminium is now recognised by the UK Government as a critical mineral and strategic growth material, vital for national security and the transition to net zero, with a minimum target to meet at least 20% of its critical-mineral demand through recycling.

Yet the UK still exports large volumes of high-quality aluminium scrap while importing the sheet our industries depend on. BACALL offers a strategic alternative: a low-carbon, domestic source of recycled, traceable aluminium.

Mission

Rebuilding Britain’s industrial sovereignty through the circular economy

By keeping high-quality aluminium scrap in the UK and transforming it into new, high-performance sheet, BACALL brings strategic manufacturing capability back onshore. A truly circular system means retaining economic value, reducing dependence on international supply, and underpinning the industries that keep Britain moving.

Mission

Low carbon production, high value jobs

Our integrated recycling and rolling process delivers significantly lower carbon emissions while supporting the creation of skilled, long-term jobs in advanced manufacturing. BACALL will help strengthen the UK’s industrial base by developing new expertise, supporting future-facing careers, and contributing to a more competitive and sustainable manufacturing economy.

Mission

Creating a secure, circular aluminium supply for the UK

“We urgently need to change the current system which sees the UK export much of its aluminium scrap but at the same time import nearly all its aluminium sheet. Doing so should see a significant carbon footprint reduction. I applaud BACALL for beginning this process.” – Geoff Scamans, Professor of Metallurgy at Brunel University

Building a new UK-based aluminium plant

We are building an advanced aluminium recycling, casting and rolling plant in the UK, which will roll aluminium sheet made exclusively from UK aluminium scrap.

We are currently evaluating a number of suitable sites. Once built, we will have the capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aluminium sheet and create hundreds of direct jobs across the UK.
